Computers and students

I feel that schools should not provide computers to all students in a school. If all students had computers with them at all times teachers wouldn't know what they were doing on the computers. I recently watched a video about teenagers growing up in the age of computers and one english teacher shared with us that using technology all the time takes away creativity. If everything is provided for student on the internet, why work hard or think hard.
But, in reality providing computers would help inside the classroom. Call me old fashion but I wouldn't want all my students to have computers at their finger tips. Teenagers and other ages are on top of what is the hottest new thing when dealing with technology. I feel that they do not need teachers to help them along when inside the classroom. Computers can be a good thing, but sometimes can cause distractions.

Online Conferences...

I listened to the part of 2010 K12 Online conference on Plan less, do more.I really like the idea of actually listening to the conference instead of going to it. I know that I am super busy and would never think of going to a conference even if it is a wonderful thing to experience. Time is a huge issue with me and i'm sure it is the same way with teachers. Being able to listen to something online is a great way to still reach the teachers all over the country.
The part I listened to was Plane less, do more. This talked about how they do not want technology to be placed in a corner when it fades. They want it to be there and they want teacher to use it. Around the end of the video I was listening to it stated something that said that if teachers stick to what they know, that is good for the students. If we know what we are doing and can help them. This is the part of planning less and doing more, if you know how to do something you do not have to spend your time planning. You can go and do more with you students because you are not learning with them. But don't get me wrong. New ideas and technology is awesome we have to expect that. But just don't get crazy with all the new information out there. The speaker ended with say that if we want to have 21st century learners we need to plan less and do more.
