Computers and students

I feel that schools should not provide computers to all students in a school. If all students had computers with them at all times teachers wouldn't know what they were doing on the computers. I recently watched a video about teenagers growing up in the age of computers and one english teacher shared with us that using technology all the time takes away creativity. If everything is provided for student on the internet, why work hard or think hard.
But, in reality providing computers would help inside the classroom. Call me old fashion but I wouldn't want all my students to have computers at their finger tips. Teenagers and other ages are on top of what is the hottest new thing when dealing with technology. I feel that they do not need teachers to help them along when inside the classroom. Computers can be a good thing, but sometimes can cause distractions.

  1. I'm not so sure I agree with that English teacher about creativity. However, having access to a computer 24/7 does not mean you have to use it 24/7. So, if the teacher wants to emphasize other avenues to creativity there is no reason she could not do so.

  3. I agree with you that computers are a distraction. Too often, I find myself lost on the internet when I have plenty of other things to do. I also think that having computers at your fingertips could be a bad thing. I know that everyone doesn't enjoy reading, but that is one of my creative outlets. I enjoy being taken to other worlds by the words of the author. I guess you can call me old fashioned too but, I'd MUCH rather read a hard copy of a book rather than a book on a computer or ''Kindle.''
